About Janine
Janine Hugo is a Swiss-South African HR transformation consultant, executive coach, and author of Own Your Career Inside Out (Second Edition).
Her work sits at the intersection of people, transformation, and technology. She helps organisations deliver change that lasts and supports individuals in taking ownership of their careers.
She began her career in graduate recruitment within financial services, working directly on campus hiring and early-career selection. That early exposure to hiring decisions shaped how she understands careers today.
Over the past twenty years, she has led HR transformation, change management, and people transition initiatives across organisations including UBS, Credit Suisse, Deloitte, and NTT Data, working across more than sixty countries. Her experience spans large-scale M&A integrations and global programmes, with a focus on aligning people, process, and technology to drive adoption and long-term impact.
At the core of her work is a simple principle: transformation only works when it works for people. That belief comes from seeing, time and again, how transformation efforts fail when people are not properly supported, engaged, or guided through the moments that matter.
The Story Behind the Work
I did not write my books because I studied careers. I wrote them because I saw the same pattern everywhere: talented people struggling to clearly explain their value, and organisations making decisions without fully understanding the people in front of them.
In 2020, when my contract came to an end, I started writing down what I had learned. At the same time, former colleagues were asking for guidance, and during a French upskilling course, the students around me began asking the same questions about their CVs, how to present themselves, and what hiring managers actually look for.
The answers were there. They had simply not been made accessible.
That became Own Your Career Inside Out, the foundation for everything that followed. The methodology behind the book now underpins all of my work.

Clarity. Positioning. Action.
This is the foundation of my work.
It begins with understanding what matters, translating that into a clear narrative, and turning it into intentional next steps.
Whether I am supporting an organisation through transformation or an individual through career change, the process is the same: create clarity, strengthen positioning, and move forward with purpose.
How I Work
Today, I work across two areas.
In my transformation work, I support organisations navigating change, with a clear focus on people, because they sit at the heart of whether change succeeds or fails.
In my coaching work, I support individuals in gaining clarity, positioning their value, and making intentional decisions in their careers. This same approach also underpins Janine AI, a digital extension of my methodology designed to support reflection, clarity, and decision-making in real time.
If you are navigating change in your organisation or your career, we can support you.
